Third IEEE International Workshop on

Recognition, Analysis and Tracking of Faces and Gestures (RATFG 2003)

In conjunction with ICCV 2003, Beijing, 18 October 2003

Scope

A wide range of applications including but not limited to human-computer interaction, teleconferencing, visual surveillance, augmented virtual environment, video indexing and search not only require real-time and consistent detection and tracking of human faces and hand positions, but also accurate recognition of faces and interpretation of body gestures. This workshop is intended to expand the scope of the ICCV conference to novel approaches specifically in the area of face and hand gesture tracking and recognition, and the visual interpretation of human body motion patterns. The workshop will emphasise on techniques and systems that tackle problems in real-time. A major goal of the workshop is to highlight and discuss the relevance of recent developments to real-world applications. We therefore encourage the participation of representatives from industry.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

* Localization and tracking of faces and hands
* Localization and recognition of facial features and action units

* 2D and 3D, spatial and temporal representations

* Face recognition (in particular under varying lighting condition and pose)

* Facial expression interpretation
* Dynamics and learning for gesture interpretation

* Fusion of multi-modalities
* Applications of face and hand gesture recognition
* Applications in HCI, teleconferencing and distance learning
* Indexing and retrieval of faces in video
* Video compression of facial and body movements

Programme

The workshop is to follow the successful format of RATFG 2001 in Vancouver and will consist of invited speakers, oral presentations, a poster session and a demonstration session (industrial systems are particularly encouraged). For information on setting up demonstrations, please contact the workshop local organisation chair Stan Li at szli@microsoft.com.

Invited Keynote Speakers

Professor Alex Pentland from the MIT Media Laboratory will give the first invited Keynote talk.

Professor Rama Chellappa from the University of Maryland will give the second invited Keynote talk.

Proceedings

Proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society. Camera-ready copies are required to be prepared electronically.
