The Importance of Topic Shift in XML Retrieval
The main goal of search engines which consider logical structure of the document in addition to the content is retrieving sub-documents instead of the whole document in response to a user's query (for example a paragraph or a section enclosing it).
These sub-documents should contain as little as possible non-relevant information. We investigate the importance of topic shift as an additional evidence to the content and logical structure of a document in retrieving sub-documents.
