Scope

The 1st Postgraduate Conference is an informal two days workshop of talks with a poster session and discussion panels. This year it is going to take place in 17-18 of September 2009 at the Francis Bancroft building, room FB113. The goal of this conference is to strengthen links within our research community and to keep abreast on the interesting work going on in other groups within the department. Furthermore, it is an excellent opportunity to practice the skills involved in preparing and giving a talk in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

1st year and 2nd year PhD students are required to participate and submit a two-page extended abstract of their work. Presentations will serve as an overview of PhD work up to date without going into technical detail. 3rd year PhD students are more than welcomed to participate by organising a panel. Participation is highly encouraged but optional for MSc students. Faculty members and supervisors will not be attending, to keep the atmosphere as relaxed as possible.

All submissions will be peer reviewed by two other research students (one from the same group, one from another group). During the conference, additional evaluation will take place for the oral and poster presentations. This is to ensure that each person gets the maximum out of participating.

Important Dates

  • 26th of June: Abstract title submission
  • 17th of July: Extended abstract submission
  • 7th of August: Peer Review submission
  • 17-18 of September: Postgraduate Conference

Paper submission

Submissions should be in PDF format using the LNCS template.

The submitted extended abstract should be two pages (including references) and include the following information:

  • Name
  • Research year
  • Research group
  • Supervisor(s)
  • Title
