Postgraduate (MSc) Students

Welcome to the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London

We are delighted to issue a very warm welcome to all of you joining us on Masters courses in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary this September. It promises to be an excellent year, with newly equipped Computing facilities for Masters students in our Informatics Teaching Laboratory and a growing range of exciting research projects and connections with industrial and commercial organisations worldwide.

After the College enrolment that takes place on Tuesday 21st Septempter 2010, the first event of the academic year within the School for Masters students is the welcome session in the afternoon of Wednesday 24th September 2010. The induction session will provide a great deal of valuable information, including a detailed explanation of the different modules available on our Masters programs, an opportunity to meet key people involved in the running of our Masters courses, a tour of the campus, information about our Computing facilities and much more.

College Enrolment: MSc students

Location: Octagon, Queens Building

Please see the College Enrolment webpages for further information about the enrolment process and what documentation you will need to bring with you. If you arrive after this date, you will need to arrange a time and date to enrol with the Admissions Office, Queens Building, Room CB02, as this process will not happen automatically. You must complete enrolment by Thursday 8th October or your registration with the College will be terminated.

IMPORTANT: Any new student who missed the induction sessions should report to the Teaching Services office( First Floor, Informatics Teaching Laboratory) between the hours of 9.30 - 16.30, Monday to Friday.

Note: Teaching starts on Monday 27th September 2010

During your departmental induction, you will be introduced to the wide range of services and facilities that are available on the QM public pages and Intranet (logon required). A few of these are listed below:

Library

The collection at the Main Library has over a million book and journal volumes and includes CD-ROMs, videos, electronic resources, past exam papers as well as our newest collection of DVDs.

There are computer terminals on each floor of the Main Library, where you can search the Library catalogues , for the items you need. The catalogue will state whether the items you require are available in the Main Library and it will provide you with a classmark and location.

English Language and Study Skills

Students who have been educated in a language other than English can join courses which cover both English language and academic study. These in-sessional English courses include General English, Lecture Comprehension and Seminar Skills, Grammar and Vocabulary, Academic Writing and a Research Writing Workshop for PhD students. These courses are popular with international students and can make a substantial difference to your chances of academic success.

Advice & Counselling

The Advice and Counselling Service offers a free and confidential service to all Queen Mary students, including those from Barts and The London, QM's School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Advice and Counselling Service is part of the network of support for International Students at Queen Mary. As well as the information and advice we offer to all students, we offer international students specific advice on money, immigration and other practical aspects of coming to live and study in the UK .

Disability and Dyslexia support

The Disability Coordinator can offer you advice and information about the facilities and resources for students who have a disability or a learning difficulty, and how to use the facilities offered by the QM Learning Support Service. They can advise on how to plan for your studies at Queen Mary, the support and resources we have here and how you might get some funding to help pay for them.
