Postgraduate studies
We are well-known for our pioneering research and innovative research-led teaching.
Every member of our academic staff is an active researcher with an established international or national reputation. This not only gives the Department a real buzz and energy, but also ensures that you can be confident of a world-class education. You will learn not only the fundamentals, but gain knowledge and experience of the latest advances in computer science. You will develop highly sought-after skills to prepare you for a career in industry, commerce or academia. You will be taught and supervised by experts in their fields, who specialise in the diverse areas of Computer Vision, Information Retrieval, Interaction, Media & Communication, Logic and Semantics, and Risk Assessment and Decision Support (see Research).
Masters degrees
We offer a range of specialised MSc programmes for qualified students
with backgrounds in computer science, who want to explore the cutting edges of the
subject. For good honours graduates with little or no previous computing experience we offer an
intensive conversion programme,
which allows you to develop a sound theoretical and practical training
in computing. The conversion programme can help to facilitate a career change or a fusion of two
different disciplines.
For students whose qualifications may not be sufficient for direct entry to one of our MSc programmes, we now offer a one-year Graduate Diploma. This programme provides the essential foundations for later study at Masters level.
Doctoral research degrees
Our PhD programme presents a stimulating opportunity in a friendly and
supportive environment for high-quality students to join full-time researchers on leading projects,
often involving industrial partners, and contribute to the shaping of the Department's future.
We currently have a community of approximately 60 PhD and 100 MSc students.
