QMW Distributed Systems Research Group QMW

This is the home page of the Distributed Systems research group in the Department of Computer Science at QMW.

Research group members

The group is not currently active in research in the department of Computer Science at QMW. We list here the academic staff involved in the group from 1990-99, together with current research students. We also list recent research associates and recent PhDs with links to their thesis abstracts.

Recent research

Our work has focussed on the design of general-purpose distributed systems that have approprate functionality for the support of groupware (cooperative work) applications. The key requirements that we seek to address arise from the need for shared access to dynamic information in multi-user interactive applications. At present we have threads of work, some funded and others resourced by postgraduate effort, in the following areas:

See our past research activities page for more details on previous projects.
See our publications page for our recent publications.

Textbook

Three of the research group's members, George Coulouris, Jean Dollimore and Tim Kindberg, have recently completed the third edition of one of the more widely-used textbooks on distributed systems: Distributed Systems: Concepts and Design, published by Addison-Wesley in August 2000. ).
