Technology Strategy Board Funding

Nick Bryan-Kinns will be working with BigDog Interactive Ltd who successfully secured Technology Strategy Board Creative Industries Feasibility Study funding (20 thousand pounds) to investigate the provision of wireless, low-cost, plug and play tools for the next generation of Sensory Theatres with the Illustrious Company (visiting Prof. Martyn Ware). Nick will focus on evaluation of the collective and mutual engagement in such environments.

Tony Stockman, Nick Bryan-Kinns and Oussama Metatla, in collaboration with SoundLinks Ltd, have obtained Technology Strategy Board Feasibility Study funding of 20 thousand pounds to explore the development of accessible recording and sound editing software for visually impaired musicians and audio production specialists. Based in Chesham, SoundLinks specialises in audio production, music Technology, and the use of speech and Braille in all aspects of work, study and leisure. Modern music/sound editors employ multi-function mixing and transport controls that rely heavily on visual displays for multi-track editing and production. This situation imposes severe limitations on the autonomy of visually impaired users within a field that could be a natural one for them, that of sound and music production. The interest for Tony, Nick and Oussama is to examine ways in which novel approaches to audio interface design can be used to support interactive editing of multi-layered, dynamic information.
