The University of Kent at Canterbury

The University of Kent at Canterbury has expertise in both the mathematical and computer science part of Computer Algebra. The Mathematics department includes an internationally known researcher in differential algebra, Dr. Elizabeth Mansfield.

Dr. Mansfield was a member of the ESPRIT Working Group CATHODE II, and is currently coordinator of the Symbolic Analysis focus group of the Foundations of Computational Mathematics forum.

Dr. Agnes Szanto is working with Dr Mansfield on the EPSRC grant Moving frames, resultants and differential systems. The aim is to use new methods for the calculus of group invariants to solve some problems in describing solution spaces of differential equations.

Professor Thompson of the Computer Science Department at Kent, and Dr. Shakell had a joint EPSRC funded project Integrating Computer Algebra and Reasoning: Incorporating a Logic into the Aldor System.

In addition, the Kent mathematics group has experts in computational group theory, Prof. Fleischmann and Dr. Shank, who routinely use and program in advanced and specialist computer packages such as MAGMA and MACAULAY.
