What is Sodarace?

Sodarace is an online Olympic race used to race creatures that have been designed by sodaracers across the world. It allows different sodacreatures to be raced against each other. The design of a sodacreature affects how it performs in the race, and this influences designers to think of the physical features of a real-life living organism and pay attention to symmetry. Hence, this allows students to develop a connection between Sodarace and the real world, thus, making Sodarace a computer simulation of real living organisms.

How is evolution connected to Sodarace?
This project looks at how a given Sodaracer will evolve, in order to optimise its performance.

We have used artificial Intelligence and incorporated Genetic Algorithms. By racing over the terrains again and again, changes to the Sodaracers will occur autonomously.

Moreover, we have several distinct terrains. Thereby, differences in the way that the Sodaracers evolve, in each terrain, can be noted, compared and studied.

What have we done?
We have created software which allows multiple generations and simulations of sodaraces to process. Our software can be found on the Software page.

So who are you?
We are a group of four Computer Science students, studying at Queen Mary, University of London. You can find out more on us in the People page.
