The Industrial Experience option

The Department of Computer Science offers several of our BSc programmes with an Industrial Experience option. These sandwich degrees combine academic study with a one-year industrial placement between your second and third years of study.

Taking the Industrial Experience option as part of your degree gives you the route to develop practical problem solving skills in a professional context. This programme can give you the experience and skills that are an important edge in the graduate job market.

As a leading research department, we have excellent links with industry, both within the UK and internationally. We also employ an Industrial Placement Manager to help you arrange your year in industry.

While we cannot guarantee you a position in industry, we will provide you with additional training and support in developing professional skills, including interview techniques and CV writing to help you to secure a good position.

About the the programme

If you are enrolled in the Computer Science (G402), Business Computing (G505) or Multimedia Computing (G453) degree programmes and have achieved an overall average of 65% for years 1 and 2 of your programme, you are eligible for the Industrial Experience degree option.

Your year in industry is a fully-assessed part of your degree. Although you will be off-campus, you won't be left on your own. Our Industrial Placement Manager will be in contact with you throughout your placement and will visit you at your work place.
