Java's Built-in Objects
This section is based on parts 6 and 7 of the notes,
ArrayLists in Java and
Strings and related types in Java
Practical exercises supporting this section are in
Exercise sheet 3.
When you have completed this section you should be able to:
- Recognise how
ArrayList
types are created from other types
- Write Java code which creates and modifies arrayLists
- Appreciate the features which arrayLists provide which are extra
to those provided by arrays
- Use type variables to write generic static methods which work on
arrayLists of any base type
- Write and understand code which uses common
String
methods
- Use
Scanner
objects for input in Java code, and for
string tokenizing
- Recognise the role of wrapper classes in Java
- Write code which works on strings, using both iteration and recursion
